Question EVERYTHING

Question EVERYTHING

Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend is urging everyone to ‘Question EVERYTHING’ as she launches a campaign to prevent people falling victim to fraud generated by artificial intelligence (AI).

The Commissioner is encouraging everybody who watches content online, scrolls through social media posts, receives unexpected phone calls, and unsolicited emails to pause and ‘Question EVERYTHING’ that they are watching, reading or hearing.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of the emerging threat of AI generated fraud and how easy it is for criminals to use the technology to create fake content to scam victims.

To launch the campaign, a short video featuring a ‘deepfake’ of Lisa was released on social media and can be viewed here:

AI generated fraud is content that has been generated or manipulated using AI, which misrepresents someone or something.

A deepfake is a form of audio-visual content that has been generated or manipulated using AI, which misrepresents someone or something.  Fraudsters create deepfakes to deliberately deceive a victim for personal gain of property or money.

AI has unfortunately made the scammers’ space a fraudsters’ paradise, as slick and sophisticated AI generated fraud is growing everyday.
