It is the Police and Crime Commissioner’s responsibility to set the level of council tax you pay towards policing, known as the precept.
Council tax 2025/26
The Commissioner’s council tax consultation was launched in January after the Government gave Police and Crime Commissioners the flexibility to increase the policing part of council tax for 2025/26 by £14 a year based on an average Band D property – £1.16 a month.
At a meeting of Surrey’s Police and Crime Panel on February 3, the Commissioner presented her proposal on the amount that Surrey residents will pay towards policing from their council tax, known as the precept.
The precept funds the Force together with a central grant from Government.
The policing element of an average Band D Council Tax bill will now be set at £337.57, an increase of £14 a year or £1.16 a month. It equates to around a 4.3% increase across all council tax bands and will take effect from April 2025.
Annual council tax amounts for 2025/26 based on a £14 increase for an average Band D property (£1.16 a month):
| Band A | Band B | Band C | Band D | |
| Total | £225.05 | £262.55 | £300.06 | £337.57 |
| Increase from 2024/25 | £9.34 | £10.88 | £12.44 | £14.00 |
| Band E | Band F | Band G | Band H | |
| Total | £412.58 | £487.60 | £562.62 | £675.14 |
| Increase from 2024/25 | £17.11 | £20.22 | £23.34 | £28.00 |
