The Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey David Munro visited Epsom Racecourse on Friday to see the police operation in action ahead of this year’s Derby.
The PCC spoke to officers and security staff on the first day of the Investec Derby Festival – Ladies Day – as they prepared for Saturday’s main event which attracted tens of thousands of spectators and was watched by millions around the world.
Months of planning went into the police operation with this year’s approach being reviewed in light of the recent terror attacks in the UK.
Those who came to the Derby this year will have seen tighter security measures, extra police on duty and firearms officers in and around the racecourse grounds.
