Between April 1 and August 14 this year, Surrey Police recorded 131 unauthorised encampments across the county. The PCC has been calling for the provision of transit sites in the county to provide temporary stopping places for Travellers which have proved successful in other areas. PCC David Munro said: “We have seen a significant number of unauthorised encampments across the county over the summer months and I know residents are concerned about their impact and associated criminality.

“I know the Chief Constable shares my view that whilst not providing a complete solution – the introduction of transit sites in the county could do much to help ease the impact on settled communities.

“I will be keen to hear his thoughts on the effect these encampments have had on Force resources and how we can plan together with other agencies going forward to address the issues we’ve experienced this summer.

“It is my role to hold the Force to account on behalf of residents and if you are interested in policing issues in Surrey that might affect you then do tune in if you can.”
