PCC supports International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination

Today (21st March) we recognise and support the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The campaign, which is held annually on 21st March, is run by the United Nations. This year’s focus is on racial profiling and incitement of hatred.

Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey David Munro said: “As the national PCC lead for Equalities, Diversity and Human Rights, I hope this annual event helps provide the recognition needed to embrace our diverse communities and assists in eradicating hate crime in all its forms.

“I’ll continue to enforce my strong belief that nobody should feel inadequate or inferior to another person and will encourage nationwide unity and equality.

“Everyone has the right to live in a world without the fear of discrimination and of course policing has an important part to play in this. Therefore, I’ll continue to work with my fellow Police and Crime Commissioners to ensure people feel safe and empowered to speak out about discrimination so their human rights remain upheld and necessary action can be taken.”
