The Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey, David Munro has today said he is pleased that a number of police forces, including Surrey, have been recognised in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2017.
The index, announced today, looks at Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT+) representation across the workplace and recognises those organisations demonstrating inclusivity.
A total of 18 police forces entered the Index this year with six making it into the Top 100.
Participating employers demonstrate their work in ten areas of employment policy and practice, from training to community engagement whilst staff complete an anonymous survey about their experiences at work.
The Surrey PCC, David Munro has recently been chosen as the national lead for Equalities, Diversity and Human Rights (EDHR) under the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners’ new formalised portfolio structure.
He said: “I hope to be the champion for EDHR issues for PCCs across the country so I am delighted that a number of police forces have been recognised in the Stonewall Index.
“We must encourage more people from within our diverse communities to seek opportunities within policing. I hope that this demonstrates the commitment to inclusivity that already exists and it would be fantastic to see even more forces added to the Index next year.
“I am particularly pleased that Surrey Police has been included for the first time. This is a great achievement which all officers and staff should be rightly proud of.”
