Changes to Neighbourhood Team in Hersham

Changes to Neighbourhood Team in Hersham

  • Please can I have further information on the restructuring of the Neighbourhood Team for Hersham which will involve the removal of the post currently occupied by PC Bourn
  • Surrey Police remains committed to ensuring Elmbridge remains a safe area and crime is reduced. However, a significant increase in issues and crimes affecting vulnerable people, accompanied by austerity-driven budget cuts, means the current local policing model in Surrey needs to change to ensure the Force is providing residents with the best possible service.

As part of the Policing In Your Neighbourhood project, the Force is focusing on being where people need us, investigating serious and complex crime and embracing changes in technology. In Elmbridge, under the new policing model, residents will still have a dedicated Safer Neighbourhood Team made up of sergeants, police constables and Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs). Each neighbourhood area within Elmbridge will have a dedicated PCSO whose responsibility will be to focus upon the repeat and chronic issues which are of concern to the community. This focus will significantly increase the presence of police within the borough as well as local knowledge and ownership of issues.

In Hersham this means that PC Neil Bourn will no longer be the local officer after many years of dedicated work. When the new policing model begins in April, PC Chris Smith will have responsibility for East Elmbridge, with PCSO Vicky Holdaway continuing as the dedicated PCSO for Hersham and will be available to meet with local residents to discuss any local crime and disorder concerns they may have.
Furthermore, Elmbridge will also have a dedicated borough based Area Policing Team of 70 constables and nine Sergeants operating on a 24/7 basis, all supported by a larger and more specialist investigative team focused on protecting the vulnerable.

Full details of the new local policing model can be found here: http://www.surrey.police.uk/My-Neighbourhood.
