Counter Terrorism

Counter Terrorism

  • Recent press conferences and briefings announced significant restructuring of Surrey Police and a resulting reduction in headcount. I did not see any mention of the fundamental tasks of counter-terrorism and public order. Could the Chief Constable give specific reassurance to residents that, in conjunction with appropriate national agencies and other police forces, she will make this the highest priority in months and years to come?
  • The Force has been horrified by the atrocities of Paris. Such events require a national and local response. The briefing referred to was very much focused on local policing and prepared before these most recent events. In future communications to stakeholders and the public, the Chief Constable will be reflecting on the need to review the Force’s capacity and capability in light of the changing tactics of these armed criminals. The Chief Constable can assure residents that the Force is well linked into the national work which is being conducted confidently and reported direct to Ministers.
